Captains Flat Market
Meet your candidates at the Market! It sounded like a good idea, so a few of the Community First group went along. I haven’t been to the Flat market since… well, the last time. There were some candidates there and a few signs propped up that were being scrutinised, but all the stall holders said, “I’m not from Palerang’ and all the visitors were from Canberra or Queanbeyan. So as a ‘meet the candidates’ event it wasn’t much chop. But when you invite 35 candidates to your market, each of them are sure to buy something, so that’s a good stategy for boosting your market figures for the day. (Pity it only happens every four years, if we had a hundred candidates we could change the Palerang economy.)
Speaking of chops, the locals I met were running the sausage sizzle, and when I went down to investigate the activity on the oval, I met lots of townsfolk. The principal of the Captains Flat school Peter Cox was there (he was at Bungendore Public School for ages and taught my daughter) and the school had organised a billycart event. The rules said that most of the materials had to be recycled and the mums and dads were all there for support. A few dads also helped push the carts around the obstacle course in time trials. Lots of fun, and they were moving on to a down hill event later but I couldn’t stay.
But as usual, I took a few photographs of the morning.
Thanks Captains Flat for the invitation anyway. I needed to catch up again.

There's a few stalls with jams, preserves and cakes but most of them are selling knicknacks. The stallholders were mostly from out of town as were the visitors. There didn't seem much interest in our how to vote cards.

Just down the road was a real community event, the school's billycart race and the mums and dads were there.

In the whole of its tiled facade there's one tap, inset. And it obviously gets used in ways that make a stern sign needed.
